Overview

Coffee Timer is a precision-first brewing companion designed for repeatability. It guides users through timed steps while keeping controls minimal during active brewing.

Problem

Manual brew timing is error-prone, especially with repeated pulse pours. Users need clear, reliable prompts without juggling stopwatch apps and mental math.

Solution

The default routine bakes in a pulse structure: start with 60g, then add 60g every 45 seconds through 3:00. The UI shows current step, elapsed time, and cues for the next action.

Architecture

A deterministic timer model drives step transitions and UI cues. Settings and presets are persisted locally, and PWA features provide installability and offline shell behavior for kitchen reliability.

Key decisions

Optimized for quick start and legibility over advanced analytics in MVP. The baseline routine is first-class, with extensibility for additional presets later.

Challenges

Ensuring timing precision across mobile background states and providing prompts that are clear enough to follow mid-brew without cognitive load.

Outcome

A dependable daily-use utility that showcases workflow-focused UX, constrained product design, and robust timer state handling.
